THE GREAT TRINITY VERSE BEFORE ERASMUS (I JOHN 5:7)

Journey with us on this Biblical expedition as we reveal more evidence for this great verse together. The Apostle John wrote under Holy Ghost Inspiration in the 1st century and said, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (I John 5:7) KJV. (The Comma Johanneum in Latin). Throughout the centuries this verse has been the cornerstone for the Christian theological debate over the doctrine of the Trinity from early church councils to even our own present day.
This title examines the relationship between the well-known reformer Desiderius Erasmus (1466-1536) and many of his prior scholars concerning the great verse of I John 5:7 in defending the sound doctrine of the Holy Trinity, the Triune God, also known as “The Godhead” which is unique to the Authorized King James Bible ALONE of which ALL the modern versions of the Bible change in (Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9) KJV.
With that said, we would like to present our theory on why Erasmus omitted I John 5:7 in his first two editions starting in 1516 for his first edition and in his second edition in 1519. As is well known, he finally included I John 5:7 in his third edition in 1522 that according to him was based upon a 'single manuscript only.' As Travis points out, "In whatever light we view the conduct of Erasmus, it betrays, at least, great weakness. If he really possessed five ancient MSS, in which this verse had no place, and had thought it his duty to expel it, accordingly, from his two former editions, he ought not to have restored it, in his third edition, upon the authority of a single MS" (Travis, Letters to Edward Gibbon, p. 9).
Nevertheless, despite Erasmus' initial omissions of I John 5:7 we are still thankful for his work but we must look at both sides of the story here. Nevertheless, his work was and still is to this day to be considered of tremendous value in the development of the Textus Receptus tradition of which Stephens and Beza polished up including using sources from the 1514 Greek Complutensian Polyglot that Erasmus himself finally did acknowledged using in his 1527 edition.
